When an assassination attempt forces Bookworld officer Thursday Next into semiretirement, she returns home to Swindon where she finds motherhood just as perilous, with one son struggling in the Chronoguard, a daughter perfecting an Anti-Smote shield, and a third child, Jenny, who exists only as a confusing and disturbing memory.
